Death To Hate

A poster idea that i came up with. Originally for a statement against hate speech, i ended up changing it to just a sweet image of a dude killing a cyclops.

I was lucky enough this weekend to meet Claudio Sanchez and his awesome wife Chondra.

Back in fall, i painted a portrait of Claudio (because ive been a huge fan of the band since forever) and i really wanted him to see it, but had no way of contacting him....
Fast forward 5 months later, I come to find out Chondra, his wife, twittered about stumbling on it and we got to talking. Next thing i knew, Im at the Tabernacle with Chondra walking me backstage to hang out with Claudio with a print of the portrait in-hand to give to him. We chatted about art/work after the show, so look for some Sam Wolfe Connelly/Coheed art sometime soon down the road :]

Im still running on a high from it all. It's been so uncanny.

and on top of all that, the show was awesome. Thank you two for being so gracious and incredible about all this.

This is an idea i had for an Urban Outfitters ad using the idea of your inner-self.

Shirt Process

It's been too long since my last post. I've been going through a lot of things right now in my life, and I've been forced to learn to not let it interfere with my work. It's hard, but I'm doing my best.

Anyways, as promised, here are some process shots of the shirts and a little explanation:



So here's the final product of what we were going for. This is one of the 2 designs that we printed.


First, we needed transparencies of our characters so that we could set the light-sensitive emulsion on the screen.


Next, Tait and I turned my bathroom into our own darkroom, were we coated the screen in emulsion, and then set up high-watt lamps to expose the emulsion with the designs on it. The result being basically a stencil of our art.


Next, we made our own ghetto-shirt machine with a piece of wood from home depot and some hinges. Once everything was in place, we took turns screening each shirt. We had a few messups....


And lastly....cleanup. ha. Or suicide, due to the amount of frustration screen printing seems to evoke...



And the finished product. 30 shirts total. Each made with tender love and care.

So my buddy Tait Howard and I spent the past month or so screen-printing our own 2 design line of 36 shirts.
Here are pics of the finishes that we're selling to friends for the low low price of $18!

It was super fun (and surprisingly a huge pain at some points) but it definitely feels like we accomplished something. Ill be posting process shots about the whole ordeal and give a walkthrough on how we did it in a later post. For now, enjoy these awesome pinup shots of us modeling them
