Tiger Bone Wine

Amongst all the art I already have going on with classes and such, i tried to fit this personal piece in. It took me about 2 weeks to finish up and im surprisingly happy with it (which isnt usually true with most of my art, ha).

The concept behind it is dealing with the past and making a futile attempt to regain strength that has already perished. If you don't know what tiger bone wine is, you should look it up because it's pretty interesting.
The media is graphite and chalk on BFK Rives 18" x 12"

so this week has been kind of a mix of a ton of stuff

a. I found out that my art got a full page in this year's SCAD course catalogue (see picture below) which i was really happy about :]

b. I got runner up in Creative Quarterly 21! I am excited about this because my art is now in the PROFESSIONAL category, haha. This is the first time i've entered not as a student and so im really psyched that I actually got in. I guess its time to grow up, *sigh*

c. Ive been keeping up with doing portrait sketches nearly everyday. Earlier this weekend i did a 45 min portrait (the bottom image) with real-time updates on my twitter, which i definitely want to do more of, so follow me if you want updates: www.twitter.com/wolfesclothing

d. Im busy working on 2 illustrations that should be finished in the next two weeks that I am really enjoying. All in all, this has been a pretty darn good week.

week of faces

heres an image dump of a handful of portraits that ive done this past week. I guess it's been a challenge trying to find my favorite method of sketching faces, but ive definitely learned a lot so far by repeating certain techniques over and over and over in such a short span of time. It makes me worried about the amount of finished work I would like to see myself produce by the end of this semester, but i think ill make it work. I usually always do.

starting slow

In the past few days I did a couple self-portraits to get into the swing of things for my portrait class (where ill need to be doing close to 12 portraits a week!) I also added some more sketches to my website, so check it out if you've got the time.

marking the end of summer

I did this commission for a short story entitled Liminality; a story about an old man who's drift into a coma is his only escape from a world without feeling.
