A physical state and a mental state become synonymous when tragedy besets. This image illustrates a living autopsy of literally taking out your insides and displaying them. The mirror is a reflection of everything that effects on our own decisions. One’s state of mind and physical state are directly correlated, so your body becomes physically mutilated when events ravage your mind. Mirrors are all relative to their host in terms of what they see as ‘hurt’. This makes mirrors objects that are solely individual. They are selfish. A relationship can only exist between one individual and their reflection.
Everyone is formed by their own experiences, which in turn, reverberate externally through actions and conscious decisions. The reflection of pain becomes clearest when you feel the physical sickness in your belly. In order to see the problem in its true form, you must carve out your viscera. If not, you can only lament over your mistakes and sorrows, which build up like a cancer. However, the more times you rip out your guts, the more scar tissue is built up. This eventually leads to ruining a natural beauty, by searching for non-existent perfection.
thanks.
First, I want to say I really love your style and I wish I'd commented on your blog before now. I just hate to be one of those people whose comment is "omg that's sooo cool" even though that's what I usually think. lol
ReplyDeleteThis is obviously a very well thought out piece with complex imagery (wish I was that deep). It's disturbing and yet I can't look away...I'm sure that was intentional as well. I applaud your bravery in putting your emotions into your work and I hope you keep it up. :)
Thanks Mary, I really appreciate it. Its a new thing im trying, putting more of my self into my art :]
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see that you're revealing yourself like that. Putting yourself into your art is the first step of being a fine artist, which I believe you're meant to be.

I appreciate it. I feel like I want to go into fine art, probably now more than ever...
ReplyDeletenow, money is the only issue, heh.
This is such a breath taking peice. I recently came across you on devaintart and was mind blown. Just saying.
ReplyDeleteAnyways. I love the feeling in this painting. Its so tough and heartwrenching and painful. It's so relateable! In my opinion that is a really hard thing to be able to pull off. Not showing people what they can feel be getting people to react by feeling the same way you do. The smokeyness of the shadows and the colors are eery and daunting, along with the expression on his face. It's so beautiful. Plus the contrast of the shapr and straight broken mirror shards and of the smooth, soft backround and guts make a really interesting look together. Whether or not you thought that out. The form of the body is just awesome as well, you have a really fantastic style. Just everyhting about this si really beautiful.
I also love what you have to say about it, both paragraphs are very very interesting, especially what you have to say about mirrors.
You are a very very talented and skilled artist. I think it's great that you're starting to put yourself into your work. It's a really vaulnerable thing to do and it's really hard, I think. (well atleast for me being vaulnerable is the only think I'm afraid of) Especially on a topic like this, where you're already kind of vaulnerable in the first place, you know? Plus, the artist putting part of themselves into a work is what helps the subject of the peice possess itself and take on a personality that the viewer picks up on.
K I'll stop now this is getting really long. Sorry!

Wow, thank you for the in-depth response allison!
ReplyDeleteYea, i ended up taking that image off DA for the time being. Ill post it up in a week or so. I'm really glad you could get something out of it. I guess thats really why i did it. Ive been listening to a lot of 'break-up' albums and wanted to replicate that same relationship that has helped spark some creativity. I think this whole process has shown that I should really write more about my intentions of pieces. So thats what i plan to do in the future. Thanks again!!
Welcome!
ReplyDeleteI saw, I actually came over to see your blog because I wanted to see greed's process.
You should write more! It's interesting to read and I guess it's good for you to look back on.
Shit like this hurts but in the end it evens itself out for something better. You can only benifit from things.
I just love visiting your blog
ReplyDeletejust so full of awesome!
digging the tones/lighting!
It's a well thought out representation. To be honest, my first thoughts were that of a piece representing conditions like IBS and Crohn's disease.
ReplyDeleteHaving read your explanation, I understand the meaning you are conveying. For me, pain is something I symbolize as a mountain. But working in the medical field, I understand greatly that mental pain affects the body. A wide variety of symptoms can arise with no available explanation other than stress. The mind truly controls the body, more so than most realize.
However, I see another meaning in this piece: that of getting to know oneself. Our insides are our most intimate, hidden and sacred parts. As you mentioned, putting them on display, a sign of trust, but the act also provides one with the opportunity to see inside himself. It takes time to figure out who we are, where we're going and what we want. Through pain, we can see hidden parts we may not have been aware of before. We can hold and love those aspects until they are safely tucked away to heal.
Strangely, I feel a lot of hope in this piece. For me, it speaks of the most intimate thing a person can do, something beautiful and haunting. It is another image that shows me the darkest, ugliest parts of us are still to be loved. Most of all, it's a reminder that I, in my times of pain, am not alone. For that, I thank you.
I think this piece was the first work of art that I really put myself into, so you're definitely right when you say it's about getting to know yourself. I worked on this for my own needs, but im happy hear that I was able to make the message universal and thank YOU.
