some things

Tomorrow morning, I hop on a plane to PA for IlluXCon which I am SO psyched for. Shoutout to Pat Wilshire (whos probably one of the most helpful people I've ever met) and everyone who arranged the scholarship and made it possible for me to go. THANK YOU.
If you're also going to be in the area, hit me up and I will hopefully see you around!
Ill be posting updates on my Twitter with whats doing down during the convention and make sure to sum up the week with big, juicy blog post right here.

in other news...
I've been posting these paintings over a number of weeks on my Twitter but I thought I would post the batch here. I started oil painting for the first time back in October, and really learned to enjoy it. I doubt that it will be any time soon that I start using oil as a medium for my actual, finished illustrations, but doing so many 2 hour studies has really helped my understanding of color relationships, along with skin tones. All of these paintings Ive posted are between 1.5-2 hours from life.

The initial one of these is a self portrait, and the rest are in chronological order, starting with the lowest one being the first oil painting I ever did.

Whenever I pick up a brush, i feel like im cheating on my pencil, so I'm going to get back to drawing now :]

  1. I've always been curious about painting with oil, usually with watercolour you can't be as free as oil where you can just slap on an opaque layer of colour and be done with it. I love your choice of colour and as always your eyes are very expressive. Awesome work!
